Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Musa Al-Khwarizmi, Persian (present day Iran) Mathematician (c780-c850) called the Father of Algebra, wrote the book "al-Kitab al-muhtasar fi hisab al-jabr wa-l-muqabala" meaning "The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing". The word "Al-jabr" in the title means "restoration" or "completion" from which the word algebra is derived.
The book deals with the solution of certain types of linear and quadratic equations.
A corrupted translation of the part of his name "Al-Khwarizmi" ("from the region of Khwarizm") in the translation of this book lead to the word algorithm.
