Infinity is a term that's regularly used in everyday language, but in mathematics it's got a very specific meaning. It's a troubled term, and casual use leads to all sorts of problems. To use it properly requires great care.

Infinity isn't just a big number. Even thinking about it as a number leads to the wrong intuition. If infinity is a number then you should be able to divide by it, or subtract from it, but your intuition is dangerous.

For example: what's infinity plus one? Interestingly enough, the correct answer is ... It Depends!

In case you're wondering, it depends on whether you're talking about cardinal or ordinal infinities.
