Public-Key Cryptosystems and Public-Key Cryptography ...
Also known as asymmetric ciphers, the idea is to have two keys:
- Your private key which you keep secret and safe
- Your public key which you publish
Someone wants to send you a message they pick up your public key,
munge their message with that in a specific way, and then send the
result to you. The design means that it requires the private key
to "unmunge" it and recover the original message.
RSA is an example.
