In 1978 the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures featured for the
first time a talk on Mathematics. Presented by E. Christopher Zeeman
and entitled "Mathematics Into Pictures", it generated such a wave
of interest that a Mathematics Masterclass series was set up.
Since then there have been many regional groups running
master classes. You can find out more about these from the RI
website:

The Juggling Talk can and frequently is given in the format of a
mathematics masterclass. This usually consists of 2 1/2 hours on
a Saturday morning, with a break in the middle for squash and
biscuits.
In this format the first hour or so is largely demonstrations
and explanations, with some activities and interactions. The
second hour fades from lecture/demonstration to problems and
puzzles based on the material they've seen.
