There are many, many moons of Jupiter, but the four largest were found by Galileo, and are now known as the GalileanMoons. It was suggested that observing eclipses of the moons of Jupiter might allow a solution to the LongitudeProblem. It was by observing eclipses of the moons of Jupiter that the speed of light was first estimated by Ole Roemer.
