A Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon and the Earth's shadow (or part thereof) as cast on the Moon. The Moon often takes on a deep red colour because of light diffucing and refracting through the Earth's atmosphere. The shape of the shadow is always part of a circular arc, thus proving that the Earth must be a sphere, being the only shape whose shadow is always a circle. ---- CategoryMaths
